| | Hannover Messe Industrie 2009 High precision and flexible systems for precision and microtechnology
The Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT in Aachen, Germany, will be presenting the highlights of its current research and development activities at the Hannover Industrial Trade Fair 2009. The institute can be visited from April 20 to 24, 2009 at stand F16 in Hall 6: At the joint IVAM e.V. stand (Association for Microtechnology), the Fraunhofer IPT will be presenting development activities into its flexible assembly system for a wide range of positioning, adjustment and joining operations. The assembly system is applied in an assembly cell consisting of several cooperating robots to flexibly combine the handling and joining technology with the necessary sensors. This highly flexible system can autonomously adapt to changing conditions and optimize processes without the need for manual intervention. Further Information

| | Cooperation between research and industry Fraunhofer IPT wants to hear about steel polishing experiences
In Cooperation with the Swedish Halmstad University and the steel manufacturer Uddeholm Tooling AB, the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT is planning a new initiative on the subject of "polishing". The aim of this work between industry and research institutes is to encourage the intense exchange of experiences in order to lead, for exam-ple, to the definition of surface quality standards, the testing of new measuring systems and the improvement of polishing techniques. Interested companies and scientists who are involved in steel polishing are welcome to join in the discussion. Further Information

| | Workshop on October 28 and 29, 2008 "Steel Polishing" – industry and research focus on polishing technologies
Together with Halmstad University (Sweden) and the steel manufacturers Uddeholm Tooling AB Sweden and Uddeholm Deutschland GmbH, the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT will be holding a two-day workshop on the topic of tool steel polishing on October 28 and 29, 2008. | | "Optics – Key Technology for the Future" colloquium Getting the technological edge – an optimistic optics industry meets up in Aachen
Around 120 experts from the optics industry met up for the fourth time on March 18 and 19, 2009 in Aachen: they were invited to the conference on "Optics – Key Technology for the Future" by the Fraunhofer Institutes for Production Technology IPT and for Laser Technology ILT as well as Innolite GmbH, the latest spin-off from the Fraunhofer IPT. The aim of the colloquium was to provide participants with an insight into current trends and innovations - the lectures were therefore divided into three topic areas "Markets and Strategy", "Products and Innovation" and "Technology and Production". The program for the two days also included tours of the institutes and a joint dinner, giving everyone plenty of opportunity for lively discussions. Further Information
